It’s time to make your plans to join the 4th annual Bead Journal Project!
The 2011 Bead Journal Project will run from January 2011 through December 2011. Registration will begin November 8, 2010 and close on December 8, 2010. All the project information is available on the BJP website . If you’d like to register, please send a request to our registration angel at beadjournalreg11 @ gmail.com (remove the spaces). The brain child of internationally known bead artist Robin Atkins, the first Bead Journal Project, which began in June of 2007, included 241 women and 1 man from 13 different countries, who were dedicated and committed to creating 12 bead journal “pages”, one per month, for a year. The BJP is about your personal development through visual journaling using any media and techniques you desire, providing each journal piece includes some beading (usually bead embroidery) and all 12 pieces are the same size. Rules are minimal: the commitment you are making is to yourself and your personal growth through art.

Tribute to Local Bead Shop
Happy Friday! I wanted to say a few words about a local bead shop that has been around for over 25+ years and is going out of business. Byzantium has grown, yet stayed the same for all these years! They are eclectic, earthy and fabulous! It’s the first bead shop I ever knew existed way back when. Many of the beads used in my book came from Byzantium including the cover project… The owner is retiring and was unable to locate a buyer, so they are staying open until everything has been sold. If you are familiar with Byzantium, located in Columbus, Ohio and have a chance to stop by soon, everything is now 50% off. I wish everyone there the very best in their future endeavors and want to thank them for having stayed true to their unique style!

Art Bead Artistry: Autumn Color Challenge part one
A month or so ago, I received some wonderful items from ArtBeads as part of their blogger program. The challenge was to use the Pantone Fall 2010 guide as color inspiration and shop from ArtBeads online catalog for items to make Autumn inspired jewelry. I chose a variety of things and worked on two projects. Today I will show you the project I created using Gemstone Beads from the catalog. From the Pantone list, I chose the colors Lagoon and a combination of Endive and Woodbine for this creation. From ArtBeads, I selected Jade Oval Bead Strand* and 6x8mm Stabilized Chinese Turquoise Ovals* and combined them with some antique brass findings and my own green based pendant, leaf and acorn charms, and disk beads. I like the asymmetry and the cluster effect on the side of the necklace and the way all the greens and aqua tones work together. I think this still has an autumn feel to it, even though I think it could be spring-like too.

Power’s Art Bead Scene collaborations
The goal of Heather Powers’s Art Bead Scene daily blog is to unite bead artists and jewelry designers who use art beads in their work. (Here’s Heather’s personal blog .) The collaborations of the Art Bead Scene’s wire, metal, glass and polymer artists result in trendy, nostalgic assemblages of friends’ work and scavenged beads from the past.
